FOOD & DRINK

Julian’s Italian Pizzeria & Kitchen

San Antonio, Texas

Now, no, I’ve never been to Italy either, but damn if I haven’t been to some pizzerias. This place was cool and everything one would expect. Great atmosphere, good people, awesome services and your food comes out fresh and hot or as it should be. The mozzerella sticks, “forget about it!” They were freakin’ delicious and has now set the bar for my next pizzeria excursion. This was a last minute, spontaneous stop and it did not disappoint. Delicious!

Fiesta Winery

Lometa, Texas

A quick trip out to Colorado Bend State Park for the “hidden waterfalls,” we made the hike to the falls, were amazed and overheated from the Texas heat. Headed out towards Lometa to try out Eve’s Cafe for some traditional German food we were passing by this winery. Being SOMEWHERETEXAS, this was calling us to stop, and, well, we did. What a fun wine. the tasting was easy and enjoyable. Explanation of the wines were informative and helped us pick our selections. All good. We left with some bottles and a go to wine forever. You will try a glass for the first time and the next time, and many after that, the wine will taste the same as expected. Good wine, good people. Events througout the year with some memorable seasonal wines to add to the mix.

Hickory Street Cafe

Abilene, Texas

Sitting just outside of Abilene’s downtown area is Hickory Street Cafe, well, on Hickory Street. Really didn’t know what to expect other than they had great Zucchini Bread. I’ll admit first, that I did not try the Zucchini Bread, but let me say this, the bread will be on the list the next time we make it by, as, another trip is definitely going to happen. What a great little cafe. Rustic, homey with really good service. The food was delicious with a simple menu unique to this establishment. Refreshing beverages and a dessert list worth the trip alone. A nice, solid cafe with a taste of it’s own. The steady stream of customers eating in or picking up, showed me that this day was not a fluke and their reputation spoke loudly. I will say, I was a bit intimidated at the start and the experience by the end was as welcoming as hot apple pie. Peace!

Red Gap Brewing

Cisco, Texas

Their are craft beers, breweries, and then there are beer masters. Red Gap Brewing are masters. Refreshing, delicious, solid beer! Bar none! What a great group of talent, owners, brewmasters, hosts and service. My favorite, Big Chief Bock. About as cool and crsip as the name itself. This bock is my pick from any other, and I’ve tried quite a few. Lagers, IPAs, Porters and a couple of other varieties will not dissapoint. Find them, find the beers, request the beers…drink the beers!

Look them up and see for yourself REDGAPBREWING.com

“It’s our belief that God created us for community and that’s exactly why Red Gap exists. We desire to connect with the city of Cisco and surrounding areas by knowing the names and stories of those who walk in our doors.” – Pulled from the Red Gap Website

KD's BBQ

Midland, Texas

For a barbecue spot, this is what I love to see. Rustic, worn and welcoming. This Somewheretexas is KD’s BBQ, Midland, TX. This is Texas barbecue people. A nice stop, some delicious barbecue and Texas hospitality. The porks ribs were a good snap in the bite as the meet eventually would come off the bone, sausage, a great bark and flavor on the brisket. Juicy and attitude. I didn’t try the sweet bbq sauce, but the bold spicy sauce, worth a dip from my bread. Yes! Oh yeah, the sweet tea is a great chaser. KD’s, keep doing what you’re doing.

Family owned and operated. Home cooking. Loretta works magic on that grill for breakfast! The chicken fried steak, second to none. Trust me, I’ve had my share of chicken fried steaks. Tender to the fork, tasty to the tongue, beyond satisfaction to the belly!! Mark this one as a must stop.
