The Hummer House

Cathy & Dan Brown

The Hummingbird House is a very cool, well kept, and exciting Hummingbird Wildlife Habitat and Bed & Breakfast. Sitting just outside the city of Christoval, Tx, this will be a small wonder for one to experience. But, I tell you what, the thing that made this stop for us memorable would be Cathy and Dan Brown. The birds were plenty, colorful, and captivating. The effort that the Brown’s have put into the habitat is shown in every detail and how all these birds have and are receiving them. Hummingbirds zooming in and out, painted buntings frolicking and enjoying seed, a nice fountain serving as a bath for other birds, flowers welcoming humminbirds and butterflies. It was crazy-magical. If you ask me, what made this so magical was the explanation of a very nice lady with a vast amount of  bird knowledge. We walked in during the end of a presentation given by Dan. Sliding into the back of the room, we sat and just stared out the window, wondering abouty the brids and what some of them may be.

CATHY & DAN

In walks up this smiling lady and hands us a pair of binnoculars. “These will help you see them better.” That was Cathy. She then welcomed some questions from us and gave us more information about the habitat, the birds and their jobs. She shared stories, bird feed recipe, advise on how to attract birds, and a great smile. I was listening to Mr. Brown, Dan, give some of his presentation and tried to just absorb all I could, interesting stuff. Walking out with a hummingbird feeder and cardinal feeder, we were set! Had a great experience and were happy with the journey there. That’s where I met Dan, just as you see him in the picture here to the top right. A smile as big as the habitat. We shared small conversation and he thanked us for coming and welcomed us back.

What really made this a good experience, was to see two people dedicated to some hard work in something they love. And because they appreciated and respected their place, they cared enough to share it with others. This is the Texas spirit, the human spirit. It’s as if we’ve known them for years, you know, I almost felt like a bird, finding a small oasis knowing the next time life finds me passing through, that I have a place to stop. Enjoy.
