Stars of Big Bend Texas

Too many memories laid out across these Texas roads. My mind goes into auto drive in a plethora of thoughts, feelings…familia. New highways now bypass the small towns that lined the way between me and my grandparents, tons of cousins and cotton fields. The red falcon station wagon where I would sit in the back counting the silos along the tracks (yes sister, I could count). The two hour trip that would seem forever. I once took a Greyhound that may have doubled that time stopping at each town for passengers and packages. The Frisco Bakery in Plainview that still holds the top standing, in my opinion, as the best Mexican Sweat Bread in Texas. I had to wait for the trip back to stop, as it was closed the first round. Yes, consistently delicious, with the first bite making an explosion of more memories, good memories. I love these roads, good music and the visions of my childhood with every mile. Now the drive takes me further, more stories, more stored thoughts and feelings. Drive Texas, and when you can, stop and taste it and maybe somewhere, find a story.
