On US 277 just South of San Angelo, you‘ll hit Christoval, TX. Turn East and you’re driving through a quaint community lined with some eateries and handful of shops, keep going and the Hummer House awaits you. Turn West and you’re now strolling through Christoval Vinyards, a pretty slick little oasis on this hot day. Strong oaks offering a cool shade and a winery to offer travelers a bit of Texas. It was quiet as the afternoon was just about to get moving. I’m no expert here, but I know what I like and what I don’t. I couldn’t tell you all the flavors, hints of this and that, full bodied feelings or fruit, but I can say “damn, I like this one!” And I did. Now, I’m not totally oblivious to all aromas and flavors, just saying, I couldn’t tell you if it was the blend of flavors that you would like, or “should” like. I just dig wine and enjoy a good glass now and then. This was one of those times. We had a perfect host walking us through our tasting. They guided us along this journey, helping us identify the magic we were experiencing with each sip. Good stuff. We marked our favorites and walked out with a couple to enjoy again. And we will. I’d recommend the stop, a tasting, a bottle and if it’s that time of day, or not, a small bite to eat. If you’re lucky enough, on the last Sunday, I believe, they serve a pretty mean brunch! Smiles, laughter and good stuff all around. Still, walk around, sign up for a tour, taste, and if you can, take some of it home with you!
